A ducted air-source heat pump can heat and cool through your existing ductwork. Whether it fits depends on the equipment, the ducts, electrical service, comfort goals, and how the home is heated now.

Safety is a separate decision

Don't service a fuel-burning furnace without the proper knowledge, skill, and tools. CPSC recommends an annual inspection and service of heating systems, including chimneys and flues.

Temporary heat needs space. Give an electric space heater at least 3 feet of clearance from curtains, furniture, bedding, and anything else that burns. Plug it straight into a wall outlet. Never an extension cord. Never a power strip.
