Is ice on a heat pump normal?
A short defrost cycle can leave frost that clears in 10 minutes. Ice that stays put or blocks airflow means calling us, not grabbing a scraper.
Ice on the outdoor unit. Backup heat running around the clock. One mode dead while the other still works. A heat pump can fail in just one direction and keep running fine the other way. Tell us what the outdoor unit's doing right now - up here on the ridge, ice and defrost trouble come with the territory - and we'll take it from there.
Note the thermostat mode, the filter, any sound from outside, how the ice is forming, and whether the indoor blower's running. Don't chip the ice or open the unit. Call us and we'll walk you through it.

We check the signal from the thermostat and the airflow first. Then the outdoor fan, the defrost controls, and the refrigerant lines.
Diagnosis first, then a written recommendation and your approval. After that comes the repair, and we test the system again before we call it done.
A control, airflow, or electrical fix is often all that's needed to get things running again. If the system's failed more than once, or a major part's gone, we'll say so, and replacement is worth comparing once we've actually diagnosed it.

Auxiliary heat is the backup electric heat. A slow recovery time or a failing heat pump can switch it on. Write down when it kicks on and whether the heat pump's still keeping up on its own.
Mode, set point, filter, and the breaker once if it's safe. Skip the panels and call us for the rest.
Tell us what changed and what the system is doing now.
